In 2006, there were 12 302 236 learners in ordinary public and independent schools in South Africa, who attended 26 292 schools and were served by 386 595 educators. These data are from the School Realities 2006 Report that was compiled by the South African Department of Education from a survey conducted on the 10th school day.
