‘Only 36% of Grade 3 pupils can read’

This was the finding of a Systemic Evaluation Survey conducted by the Department of Education through the Jet Educational Services. The last systemic evaluation of Grade 3 pupils was done in 2001, when only 30 percent of children passed numeracy and literacy tests. For the IOL summary of the 2007/8 Survey, click here
