According to a Sunday Times article South Africa has been rated as one of the top 10 destinations for foreign students wanting to pursue a university education away from home. More than 60600 of the 2.8-million international students studying outside their country are completing their degrees at one of the country’s 23 universities and universities of technology. This is just more than 8% of South Africa’s total university population of 761000.
A report by the Institute for Statistics of the UN’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), based on figures from 153 countries, ranked South Africa as the eighth most-popular study destination for foreigners.

Dear David
As a foreigner you will first have to contact SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) to have your school qualifications verified, before you can apply to study at any South African university. Their contact details are as follows: website: http://www.saqa.org.za/ or telephone number: +27-12-431-5000, or e-mail: saqainfo@saqa.org.za
Once your school qualifications have been verified by SAQA you will can contact the student appliction offices of any of the South African universities to see if you qualify. A list of the South African public universities are available at http://www.hesa.org.za/hesa/index.php/about-us/universities
